Such a Delicate Balance

Whenever I am lucky enough to travel, I love to explore the topography that surrounds me: the unique trees and plants, the different species of birds and other wildlife, and the teeming ecosystems found in the nearest bodies of water—be they fresh or salt. Such a delicate balance. Such incredible diversity.

Yet I also grieve for the beautiful creatures being decimated, in most cases because of our actions—or our inaction. I wonder why we fail to see or care about the consequences of our selfishness. As I walk the trails or sit by the water, capturing the stunning beauty that remains, I am moved to tears by the pulsing of life around me, and by my own role in its destruction.
